Red face almost ready a few questions

well ive been gathering all my stuff to begin breeding and all i need left are a few things like ial sponge filter and bananna worms

i chose a short and wide 40 gallon to breed in so i figure i need a larger sponge filter than usual and i was wondering if this would be a good one to use?

http://cgi.ebay.com/Water-Tank-Bioch...a#ht_838wt_698

the fry foods i will be using are infusoria bbs vinegar eels bananna/walter worms and possibly yolk if they'll accept it

also i will be using a peice of driftwood and java fern and moss for hiding places

should i cycle the tank before hand?

Cycling is not necesary...you'll be wanting to clean the tank daily. I reccomend buyin IAL from Amy in Bangkok...you can find her on Aquabid and Ebay.

A 40 gal might be to large for spawning.

Agreed. You can still use it but it may delay the spawning proces...try dividing it!

I think dividing it is a good idea then when the fry get big enough, you can remove the divider to give them more room to swim and grow.

i agree because you dont want the fish to get lost when the female is running away

You don't really need the filter if you do large daily water changes. You can turn the filter on (gently of course) when you introduce the pair.
