Hey fellow betta lovers. Amour here with a concern.
I just got a beautiful double tail halfmoon orange butterfly male from Petco about a day and a half ago at this moment.
He has beautiful fins and on the outside he looks quite healthy.
But since I've had him, he's been really lazy. He'll lay on leaves of his plants and just sit with his fins fully extended staring into space. And sometimes he lays on the bottom of the tank a little on his side.
All my fish seem to be sad the first few days I get them.
So do you think this is just that and I'm being a paranoid mommy? Or could something else be wrong?
He's sharing a cycled 10 gallon tank with my halfmoon. Each have their own snail and two live plants each.
Temperature stays at about 80 degrees. I floated his cup in the water for an hour before I put him in his new house.
Thanks in advance for your input.
P.S. Picture of him since he's vain and thinks he's really pretty.
He looks GREAT and VERY pretty!!! I think it's very possible he is still acclimating to his new digs.
I find it interesting that you said you floated his cup for an hour before you poured him in. Don't you acclimate to the new water? When I get a new one, I float them for 15 minutes, then pour some of their water out & put about a 1/4 cup of my water in their container. After 5 minutes I repeat that, after another 5 minutes I do it again and THEN put them in their tank.
I wouldn't worry too much if you didn't acclimate the water right off. I floated my cup when I first got my betta too and then put him directly in the tank. He was corner surfing and being all lazy about a week and then he's livened up and spunky now. :)
