That is correct-larger the volume of water the less chance of crashes....
Sorry didn't mean to make it sound so hard and confusing...it really isn't....tank, water, dechlorinator, heater. healthy fish...some water changes and all should be fine.....

Thanks alot only took me about 30minutes to sort through all of the fish there. I had been at the other (mom &pop shop) LFS and looked a little closer at their fish although they seemed more active I looked closely at their fins and noticed they were either chewed or had what I would guess is fin rot? Black along the edge?!
Went over to petco where the guy had been pretty helpful and took time to answer questions. Most of his answers lined up with what you guys have said so.. I took a look. There were a couple that had similar conditions to the other place but several that did not and had very clean cups. I looked and looked and found this guy (fingers crossed) this is the same place I got my gecko Pete and he's twelve hoping to have similar luck.

I believe black along the edges IS a sign of fin rot.

Is the Mom & Pop place where you got the other bettas? If so, I sure wouldn't deal with them anymore, but that's just me.

Sometimes you CAN find good fish at the chain stores - CONGRATS!

I just have a feeling that THIS is the ONE!!! :)

yeah this is the red CT that bit it this morning or last night sometime (1 1/2 days:( So I went back to PEtco fish in bag water samples in hand. We tested the water every which way pH looked a touch low to him so I grabbed a neutralizer. He also helped me pick out another fish not the prettiest color wise but definitely an active swimmer and aggressive feeder.(we dropped in a flake or two of nutrafin betta flake)
After two hours of acclimation (yes I know I took my sweet time) and adding a 1/8 of a shot glass of water every 15minutes I finally introduced him to his new digs. He's been swimming around checking things out up and down and all over. So that's where I stand now.

Your new guy is VERY pretty (what I can see of him).

I am SO sorry about your CT. I just can't IMAGINE what is going on that you keep losing bettas!!!
