Question Can I use Espom for Fungus?

Umm, I think DS may have picked up a Fungus...

Okay, I know how to treat Fungus, but my Homemade Fungus treatment requires salt, and just ran out of aquarium salt.

I only have kosher and espom. Now, Espom is used for bloat, constpation, parasites, etc. I know that its not used for fungus, but to be honest, i have a ton of espom and i need to get rid of it.

my homemade fungus treatment (ur welcome to use it, it is AWESOME!!!)-
1 teaspoon of salt per gal. for 5 days twice a day. if not completly helaed by 5th day, continue treatment for another 3 days.

Should I stick with the kosher or whould espom for 5 days be ok?

thx guys, DS

Don't use epsom salt, it won't help and honestly, long term effects of the repeated use of epsom salt on fish haven't been fully researched. You should avoid using epsom salt unless it's absolutely necessary. Definitely use a little kosher salt instead.

For your treatment, are you really adding a teaspoon of salt twice a day, or are you changing the water and adding new salt twice a day? Hopefully the latter.

What makes you thing he has fungus? True fungal infections are pretty rare compared to bacterial infections. The only time I have ever seen true fungus is as a secondary infection, and usually it's just a couple tufts of saprolgenia on the fins. This goes away as soon as the fish is feeling better, generally.

What does the "fuzz" look like and where is it located on the fish?

k, no espom.

It's pre-mixed salt, so yes i will change the water, and it's a very mild case, so i have him being treated temporarly in a half-gal, waiting for my 5 gal.

i killed off the present fungus last night with only a dwidle of Auarium salt i found last night. I know that there are still Fungus cysts still on the fish, that will hatch and re-infect him.

fuzz- cloudy fuzzy stuff, believe me, it was fungus. last night, just fuzz on the top of his body, out-lining the anal fin, and basicly it was kinda out-lining his body.

DS always has problems.Go figure...
