Is this normal?

My betta always lays on the sand substrate around or on the leaves of my plants, he loves it like crazy. He'll hang out there for like 5 minutes and then swim away. He really loves the Java Fern I have substrate planted, and my two cryptocoryne parva plants that are on each side of the filter current, maybe he likes it cause the current goes against the glass and between the plants and he likes to rest there. It's his favorite spot, sometimes I swear he is dead in the tiny leaves cause he tangles himself in them LOL.

Finally got a pic (you can totally tell he is a double tail here ha!)

I've been trying to figure out my new guy I have a cup of gravel from an established tank in with him (for bacteria) and he has managed to find a crevice to press himself into not sure if this is normal...he almost looks dead(makes me very nervous) but he's still alive. Idk any ideas....thought it was similar to what you were talking about. I mean he reeeeally presses himself in, looks dead but he isnt and its freakin me out.

My old bettas would do that between the glass and other objects, so I made the space just a tiny bit bigger so they did't scratch their fins.

Is he just shy I figured he'd be moping around the tank doing what ever a fish does while they blubblub blubb through the water. But he just sits down there at the bottom hiding and isn't eating....he took one piece of food last night and nothing this morning.

If you have sinking food like a sinking pellet, try dropping it where he usually rests? I think if you submerge the hikari pellets for like 5 seconds they will sink.
