I wasn't supposed to bring any more living things into the house after Jack. My mom/landlady doesn't know about all of the 16 fish-shhh!

That's funny & awesome! I turn 30 in 11 days and my mom can hold over my head the amount of fish I'm supposed to have-really!?! They don't come upstairs or bother her in any way. If I'm paying the full amount of rent & other expenses why does she get a say? I need to get my own place-that's my rant! Gotta get my own place ;) And why are textbooks so gosh darn expensive?

*sigh* I hear you. I am 50 years old and disabled and live with my elderly mother. She's a clean fanatic and I guess she thinks they clutter up the house. lol They're upstairs in my room and don't bother anyone. No one ever comes up here unless I invite them. I , like you, pay my share of the expenses so it really shouldn't be that big a deal. She's afraid I'm not taking care of them. Well, of course I'm taking care of them! If I couldn't/wasn't then I wouldn't have them.

Exactly!! I wouldn't have taken them on if I couldn't do it. Why would any good, sensible owner bring their fish in & not provide them with the TLC they need & deserve. I have a fully finished, separate basement apartment, she never has to see them or be bothered by them. My sister had 2 kids & lived here. At least I didn't bring home any of those. I love my nephews, but my sister's a freeloader.

Fish are a lot easier to take care of than fish and less messy and noisy. lol And they're cheaper to maintain than kids. lol

Definitely! As much as I love those boys, they are WAY more expensive, noisy & more work than my fish will ever be. She doesn't live here anymore, but somehow her kids are still over here all the time. I can see why no more large animals (Jack, my cat, is special needs) and I wouldn't introduce a new one until after he is no longer with me.

I can understand that. I don't think it's fair to an older cat to bring in another one. I tried it once and it didn't work out.

He was the alpha too. Jack's going to be 12 in April & his brother was put down in June of 2010. He hadn't been any only cat until then & it was hard at first. He would NOT accept a new little one in the house that could take up his mom's time. As I'm typing, he's crying on the steps. Apparently he's had enough of mom upstairs. Either that or he wants food ;) Signing off-Good night!
