Rant: went into a petshop that is actually pretty good, but of course does keep certain fish together due to space constraints. In one tank was a really bad combination - male swordtails, male coral blue gouramis and serpae tetras. Everyone was showing some fin damage and one poor gourami was really quite badly wounded - the swords would not stop harassing him. I just wanted to bring the poor baby home and make him well. :(

My guineas are doing pretty good. My friend refuses to take Ginger and Panda for free so we cut a deal... I found 2 large cages for 45.00 total, she gets one I get one, plus she drives me Saturday to get the Skinny Pig =D Honey and her baby are doing great.

Creature got renamed to Ginger lol sorry She is seeing the vet tomorrow, thanks to my friend Taylor (the new owner). We decided to keep her and Panda together because Ginger despises other guineas, and Panda keeps her in line LOL! Honey is staying with me, and so is her baby :3 and so is my new addition, the Skinny Pig (unnamed male)

awww. i miss minnie but i would rather she be with my nephew seeing as how he had gotten so attached to her when i would babysit them, background: he is a little behind in his speech so its difficult for him to make friends but when he started bonding with minnie it was like he was changing, his dad says he has been doing great in school since he had her. Skinny pig haha thats what my mother called minnie when she was still ours. Now i have acquired 3 new female mice that i was told were male but upon closer inspection they had nipples lol rant : people who have animals for their unappreciative children for a week then give them away when the real work begins.

^^ I hate that! I see ads on the local classifieds all the time. "Bought the mice/fish (the two most commonly mentioned species) for the children but they lost interest." Grr!

Rant: My cousin thought it would be a good idea to give away baby goldfish in tiny bowls at her daughter's first birthday party two days ago :/ So irresponsible! There were way more fish than there were bowls, so most kids got two or THREE to a bowl and I KNOW they aren't going to be taken care of properly. I wonder how many of them died already...

I managed to rescue two of them that were going to be "thrown out," but I wish I snagged more! :C

I hate how people think fish are so disposable...

i have had talks with the kids about the fish and pets we have and always make sure to let them help out during cage cleaning and some feedings so they understand that animals have every right to be fed, cleaned, and loved just like them. And having Ronin has seem to make it easier to explain that when i giving him a bath, dressing and feeding him.
I really dont understand why parents dont think and only delude themselves into thinking if they keep their children at whatever cost it will make their children love them more. How can they learn to respect life like that? oh it gets me so riled up, acouple times i talked a parent or grandparent out of impulse buying by explaining exactly what an animal needs to live happily.
