My betta Jaws is a vailtail, this morning i noticed that his long fin(the very back fin) was split, not much just a little, is it life threatening? what can i do? will it get better?

First question: Do you have plastic plants? They are capable of "slicing" your bettas fins. Or anything sharp in the fishes' tank can result in "torn" fins.

As long as the water stays clean (to prevent infection) it's not life threatening. It could be that something sharp in the tank tore his fin. OR he could be a tail-biter.

That could be your culprit. Sometimes the plastic will have a sharp edge or pointed leaf that's capable of cutting the fins. See if you can find some real or silk plants you like...in the meantime it might be smart to remove the one you have in the tank. Bettas like "cave-type" decorations as well. Something they can swim in to and hide.

Yes, a teaspoon of aquarium salt will help prevent the "tear" from infection...change his water regularly as well. Water quality is a "biggie" for the health of your betta.

A small amount of aquarium salt for a few days should help. The best thing for him is super clean water. You should consider swapping out your plastic plant for a live or silk plant.
