When conditioning my bettas I feed them their normal pellets in the morning and then some type of frozen food (either bloodworms or brine shrimp) in the afternoon. This has been giving me great results as far as the health of my breeders and the number of eggs produced is concerned.

With this feeding routine my females produce a lot of eggs and recover quickly after spawning. I've tried feeding my bettas more than twice a day and in my experience they just become lethargic and are less likely to want to breed.

I condition with live food, mosquito larva 2-3 times a day and they get about 10-15 large skeeters each per feeding and this get them in breeding condition in about 3-4 days along with 100% daily water changes.

I am breeding my bettas tomorrow, and I have been using the same conditioning routine as oldfishlady, excluding the daily water changes, and my bettas are as healthy as bettas can get! I strongly recommed this way of conditioning
