Is aquarium salt bad for mystery snails?

I was going to put my mystery snail in my 5 hex with a betta, but is aquarium salt bad for them? He's in my 10 gal divided now which has salt in it because I didn't even think about it. Anybody know? Thanks

they can handle small amounts of it for a very short time but I wouldn't recommend it. If you need to dose with aquarium salt I would either move the snail or the fish to a different tank while treating.

Okay, I use the salt all the time for my bettas, as the box says to use it as a preventative of disease. So okay, I just won't put any in the 5 and move him. Thanks!

Actually salt really isn't good to have in your tanks 24/7. Prolonged use of salt can lead to liver problems in bettas and it can lead to bacteria becoming immune to its affects.

Personally I have found aquarium salt to be way over rated and even more over used!
It should only be used when a problem arises.

As for snails and Aquarium salt, They can tolerate ALOT, as long as its pre dissolved before being added,
Or make sure the snails is on the oppasite side of the tank when you add it, "They will avoid it until it totally dissolves as it hurts then to walk on it, Poor things, can almost hear them cry if forced too. But once dissolved no problems,

I see that your sig says you have mollies. I've always been told and read that they NEED aquarium salt.

NONE of my mollies get any Aquarium salt added to their waters period!
And their better off for it in my opinion.
I got a bunch a little while back that lived in blackish waters,
I slowly converted them to plain old water too, They have been doing great as well,

The people that had them in the brackish water never got more than a few young each time,
Now, They and all my other molly's give me a good 100 fry or more per drop
Neadless to say they are all very healthy too, I 've never have a problem with any of them either

I've been told to add a bit of aquarium salt when doing a water change, haven't done it though - my fish appear to be fine without it & I wouldn't like to cause organ problems/failure.

Any one else hear about/practice this?

All I know is salt is detrimental to the health of Betta splendens over long periods of time. There's been several studies done that say fish are better off without salt.

I don't know what part of the world Mollies are derived from but if they are truly "fresh water" fish than I can't see how salting the tank can be good for them.
