Wow, I just never could imagine putting soil in a tank, but then again it makes total sense. I'll save this subject for a later discussion with you. You've manage to take me to new level of understanding... don't know if this is good or not... considering my hubby thinks I've completely lost my mind with this new fish hobby. LOL...

I can't wait to find out about the kitty litter mix!

Thanks!

So I'm sitting here reviewing the cycling article and it says after the cycling is complete, do a water change. But it never specifies how much to change. 100%, 50%, 25%...? I really don't want to guess at it. Can someone please give me a specific percentage... thanks.

You want to change enough water to get the nitrate below 20ppm (long term nitrate 10ppm and below) after the fishless cycle before you put the fish in the tank and usually 50% with a vacuum will get your there and a good starting point.
Your ammonia and nitrite should already be 0ppm on a completed fishless cycle

New question: Two days in a row, the ammonia level has stayed at 2.0 ppm. Does this mean it is leveling out and ready to go down, or should I expect a huge spike in a day or two? Anyone? (I'm kinda getting antsy, waiting on this thing to cycle...) Yes, I know, the article said it could take 4 to 8 weeks, UGH! I guess I just need a pep talk or something...
