Betta acting weird plz help!

My betta's been acting weird and I'm not sure what to do. He is a bit over a year old is in a 5 gallon tank with 2 platy fish and seem to get along fine, but the betta's been acting really strange lately. He lays on things like a rock or on the ground and doesn't move that much for a while. Almost seems like he's dead really. He sometimes lays on the suction cup of the heater with his body kinda out of the water. He doesn't appear to have any weird molding on him or any gold or silverish dusting either. He also is eating fine.

Tempature is about 78-79 and I know the ammonia is a little high but I've been working on that and should be lower now.

Here is a link of some pictures of him http://gallery.me.com/mpertz/100110

Please let me know of any ideas of what it could be.

Thank you so much in advance!

I was told it could possibly be constipation because the pictures look a bit like he is bloated.

Any suggestions or comments?

Thanks

He looks bloated...

You probebly overfed him, I would lower the water hight to around 5 inches so it would be easier for him to get airr acess...

You will need to fast him 2-3 times a week, and feed him 1-2 pellets A DAY. For snacks, I prefer to use microworms sparingly 1 time a week. You will need to continue this schedule once he starts becoming more active and less bloated.

Once he is normal again, you should feed him 3 pellets a day with 1 fasting a week, and freeze dried BW sparingly 1-2 a week.

He may also been stealing the platies food, so u may want to watch out for that.

Hope this helped,

DS

Would you suggest I move him to another tank away from the platy fish and use the water from this tank? Or do you think moving him to another tank would stress him more? Just because I still have to feed the platy fish.

Any thoughts on that?

I would get him his own tank. This is a problem you run into when they're kept with others and they can eat more then their share. They have no idea when to stop eating. They'll just go and go and go.

If you move him to a new tank, you don't need his old water since there's an ammonia issue. Just make sure the temp is the same as his old tank before you move him and acclimate him slowly.

To me it looks like he has dropsy ): In some of the pictures you can see his scales starting to pinecone. I don't know how to treat it but I know a few people here have.

Thanks everyone for your help. Unfortunately I found him dead this afternoon :( I'm really sad about this because he was my first fish and because I enjoyed taking care of him so much I got more passionate about fish and Aquariums. He wasn't himself for a few weeks so I kinda saw it coming. He was 1 year and 1 month almost.

Thanks again everyone for you help.
