What should I do with a big shallow bin?

I got this big bin, about 15inch x 5inch x 10inch. I've also got a 5gallon tank for spawning. I tried spawning with my Red HMPK, but with no success. Im conditioning my Fancy white pair. My question is, should I use the big bin or the 5g tank? If I use the big bin, what method should I use? Normal hobbyist method? Or the Shallow spawning method? Also, my pair is flaring back at each other, so far so good. Only thing is that my male doesn't make any nest in his own tank. There's only little bubbles scattered all around... Is it Ok to spawn him?
