Aquarium Salt

Last week Elmo bit through his tail like there was no tomorrow and now looks like hes been through a cheese grater Im going to use aquarium salt but was wondering, rather than QT him I was just going to add the salt to his tank and do the treatment that way. I've never done it like this before so I don't really know how many water changes to do, the tank is cycled and also after the treatment is over and I put my mystery snail back in will it be dangerous for her? obviously I will do a big water change beforehand.

I'll probably end up QT him but I would just like to see my options lol

Thank you

You can put the salt directly in the tank. When your done treating do 1 50% change to get half of the salt out then you can add your snail back. The next time you do a water change take out another 50% and all your salt will be gone.

Do I need to do water changes when I'm doing the treatment?

If your treating for 10 days then I would do 2 water changes during that time (depending on what size your tank is). Just remember if you do a 50% water change you are taking half the salt out so you need to replace the same amount of salt that you take out.

I would use the same measurement. I don't think there is much difference between UK and US gallons.

What i do when im dealing with aquarium salt is i find the biggest vase i can find and i submerge it in the tank but with the top sticking out of the water then put the fish in the vase and treat it i find it easier than doing 100 % water changes on a whole tank everyday and the vase water stays warm because its dipped in the tank.
