Just make the water changes when you don't have the testing products...kinda..better safe than sorry thing.....and water only change will not hurt the cycling process either, just don't over clean the gravel or filter media

IMO-it is nice to have these products-but you don't have to have them to keep fish and be a good fish keeping as long as you are willing to make the needed water changes...especially when money is tight.......I know.....living on a budget myself.......

I understand about having to sell your horse, I had to sell mine many, many years ago to pay for school too.......neat thing about that is after school- mean better paying job and so you just start over....and with school it not just money...it time.....

Forgot to add, love your Betta..she is pretty....

Wait, so you cant use this? Because I have a 2.5 gallon tank that is not cycled and I wanted to know if I could do something like this

There really is no substitute for regular water changes. Most products like this might make the water "look" better for awhile or make you feel as if you're doing something when its really not that effective.
