I purchased this plant and it was labled as a "compacta" it is creen with redish/purple leaves. Doing internet searchs i can find nothing that looks like this using the name "compacta" andy ideas on what it could be?
Pretty!
Look at this, it might help you. http://killifish-breeders.com/FREE_USER/common_aquarium_plants.htm
It has a list of common aquarium plants, some of them being reddish purple. Some don't have pictures, so you can copy the name and look.
I'm looking still to see if I can figure it out.
Where did you get the plant? It's possible it was missplaced and they put the wrong name on it, or it might not actually be an aquatic plant. But if that's the case, it would probably be one of those top fin plants in it's own cylinder. I don't think that would happen otherwise. Hopefully it is a true aquatic plant! It looks like it's doing well.
Here is another link to lots of aquatic plants (descriptions and pics): http://www.waterscapesnursery.com/AquariumPage.htm
I Purchased it at petco in one of the (tubes yes I know NOW) lol so i guess there is a good chance its not actually aquatic although seems to be doing well.
ok so i posted the same ? on another forum it looks like its ahygrophila polysperma a small one that they just labled as "compacta" i would guess reffering to its small size
I believe that the only aquatic plants they have in the tubes are:
Amazon Sword
Wisteria
Ozelot Sword
Java Fern (sold as "Tropica Fern")
Hygrophila (sold as "Compacta")
so if you ever buy tube plants make sure to only get those ones. Or do your research. The great thing about my petco is that there's a bookstore rift next to it with free wifi. So when I see something interesting i just go there pull out my iPod touch and google it!
I bought that same plant. I really like it. Mine dont have any purple though, your leaves may be dying. When this plant is thriving it looks realy nice and it is fully aquatic. Its also called Hygrophila Corymbosa Stricta. Heres a link to check out http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/tr/Hygrophilacorymbosa6.php
Sorry it took so long to reply back,
It looks like you figured out what it was and that it IS aquatic, awesome! And your welcome for the links, ^_^
