Snails and live plants in a 5 gal?

I have a male betta currently in a 1.5 gal. I am probably upgrading to a 5 gal or maybe 16 gal( 16 gal not likely) and am wondering if snails and live plants are a good idea in the new tank. please reply, i know next to nothing about this!

For a betta to be at its happiest you will need a heater, a filter would be ideal and also would save you a lot of trouble when doing water changes.

i have all of those things. the 5 gal that i am looking at is the Aqueon Mini Bow 5 gal aquarium kit. it comes with a filter and my heater can be used in a 5 gal.

Also what would you suggest for a hiding place? I found this thing at petco. It is a broken down tank with 2 holes in it. It isn't very big, but i like it. Do you think that that is a good choice for a place for the fish to hide?

I'm not actually from the states so I can't help you with tanks sadly but with hiding places I use anything from ceramic pots, driftwood, pvc piping and rocks, just make sure everything is smooth so that the male doesn't injure his fins

thanks. i currently use a ceramic pot, but it gets too much light in it.
