How to clean a 5 gallon?

Should I be doing 20-30% water changes twice a week and a 100% every 3 weeks? There is no filter. But there is one male betta and a heater. There is no light

I have a 5.5 gallon but it has a filter I do one 50% change and one 75% change a week I do 100% changes every other week.sometimes well most of the time I just do a 75% insted of a 50% so I usually do two 75% ones.Hope that can help you.All my tanks have filters So I don't have a non filter cleaning schedule anymore.I also tend to over clean my tanks lol so you should probably wait for someone else to come on.But a 20%-30% is not alot for an unfiltered tank I would do at least 50% changes.

Only way to say for sure is to test your water, but you seem a little light on your water changes. I would be doing at least a 75% weekly on top of what you are doing. You could add a small sponge filter to your tank, cycle it, and really make your life easier.

What filter are you getting? If you haven't decided, maybe the Red Sea Nano filter. A lot of people like it, but i have no experince with it.
