new HM betta, help on coloration?

This is my new betta! He was sold as a halfmoon, and I realize he is missing a large chunk of this tail... I believe he bit it off on his own while stuck in that tiny petco cup. His fins are semi-translucent and have an iridescent look to them when the light hits him right. He has a black band down from his gills to under his chin... I think it's just a coloration? If not please, please correct me if it's something I need to worry about and treat.

Sorry for the image size, I can try to fix it if there's a problem.. poor quality as well. Apparently all of our digital cameras in the house are either missing or broken. >.>

He looks very nice!! I can't wait for his tail to heal. The black around his gills is just coloration. You see it on alot of bettas mostly white or orange ones.

Thanks guys!

I'm glad that band is just color. And I can't wait for his tail either! The rest of his fins look pretty good, so I'm sure he'll be stunning when they grow back.

He's a pastel (or "cellophane"). I'm not sure if he's an HM or a Super Delta, his caudal (tail) edges are rounded which leads me to think he may not have a full 180* spread but I would need a flaring pic to be sure.

He's very pretty. I hope his tail heals up.

Thanks 1fish... that helps a lot.

Held a small mirror to the tank to get him to flare, it looks like when fully spread it indeed goes the full 180 degrees.. I'll try to get a photo to confirm that, though!
