Your tank is way over stocked... I suggest you get rid of the cories. They need to be in groups of 3 at least and need a cycled tank because they are scaleless and susceptable to ammonia burns from bad water conditions.

If you don't want to get rid of the cat fish then get a 10+ gallon tank and cycle it and add more cat fish.

I'm pretty sure that bettas are incapable of feeling loneliness, one of the several reasons they are fine kept on their own.. other than that, I agree with 1fish, you should probably get a larger tank for them.

I had a male betta with 2 white clouds and one cory cat in a five gallon no problem. I did massive water changes and had a filter.

But instead of hoping it works out why not just do what we know will make the fish happiest?

Good point 1f2f. Your
tank is WAY overstocked. Take out the cories and put them in another, larger tank.

Ghost shrimps are great little things to keep in with bettas if you want them, they're so fun to watch :D . Just be warned that betta's have been known to make meals out of their new "tank mates"
