HELPPP - Ammonia Readings

I have in these four vials four different ammonia readings. They are in the correct order. I am adding ammonia into my 5G tank.

Vial 1 - 1 Drop of Ammonia
Vial 2 - 2 Drops of Ammonia
Vial 3 - 3 Drops of Ammonia ... Wtf?
Vial 4 - Re-Testing of 3 drops of Ammonia

Uhh... Can someone please tell me... What on earth is going on here? I rinse my medicine dropper every time I measure something new... I don't understand these readings...

Hmm... I have no idea, honestly! That's never happened to me before. Weird...

Do a test on just your source water-one with dechlorinator and one without dechlorinator and don't add any ammonia to rule your source water and dechlorinator out

Also, the low volume of water in the test tube and added ammonia can give you skewed results.

I tested the water today in two different vials, but same water, and it's reading 0.5. Probably just left some ammonia in the syringe.

Does anyone have a problem with their API vials leaking?

If I shake them too hard. Some of the lids don't fit tight enough.

It looks like my lids are on at the top, but if I shake them even remotely hard I feel water all over my hand. @_@ It's kind of annoying because then I can't trust test accuracy...

Yeah and it can leave a burn, so wash your hands. I burnt some of the skin off my thumb with those things. :/

You might have to test all the lids. Two of mine don't fit tight so I just use two test tubes now instead of four.

All four leak. :/ Vaygirl, are you experienced with fish-in cycling with Dr. Tim's?

I used something in a bottle from Seachem when I first did my 16 and relied on those stick-em ammonia readers (I'm amazed Tango got through that :/) Since then I've used filter media and gravel from it to jump-start all my other tanks. I've never used Dr. Tims. Is it like a bacteria in a bottle kinda thing?

Yeah, it's live nitrifying bacteria and you can cycle a tank in about 2 weeks with it. It's really easy to use with fishless cycling but I've never heard of anyone just adding in the bacteria and then putting in the fish as an ammonia source.
