a thermometer is only like $2-3... My tank is at 79*F and it feels cool to the touch. But on a cold day it feels warm so it depends...

Way too warm. No higher than 86 and 86 is even dangerous for too long. No higher than 84.

Please tell me you didn't take him out and put him in cold water. :S It's best to leave him in the tank for now, you just need to cool off that tank water. Get some cold water and dechlorinate it and add that slowly into the tank to cool the temperature. Is your tank heated or by a window, or under a bright light?

I took him out and left him in the same water as the tank...And it has a heater but it isnt on right now
