Bettafix will not help--it's for superficial injuries to the scales and fins. Popeye is usually caused by aeromonas bacteria, which is gram negative. You should use a gram negative antibiotic such as Maracyn II or Triple Sulfa.

Can you tell us more about your setup by answering these questions?

Before using an antibiotic I recommend that people read this article so that they have a better understanding of how antibiotics work and the risks involved: http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/fa084

It can have different underlying causes, but the most common is aeromonas, I believe. To be safe you could just treat with one and two at the same time. Most medications will claim to treat everything under the sun even though a different one could potentially do the job better--you can't always believe the label.

I see a couple of things wrong (or not reccomended). First, I would say get a 2.5 gallon once he's better. Second, if he's in only a 1G, you should be doing 100% water changes once every 2 days. Your tank also NEEDS a filter. No buts about that, bettas are tropical fish and need, need, need a filter.
