the new filter in my betta tank is like a white water raging river lol it takes all his food for a big ride but its a good filter i need a way to make the stream not so powerful

i opened up a scotch sponge i had in my kitchen but it smelt like chemicals so i didnt feel safe using it

any suggestions and pictures or guides are welcome to help me out :)

Here is a pic of how I do it - I use either AquaClear or Imagine sponge/foam.

Hope it helps!

There's a way to do it with half a water bottle too if you don't have a way to get a sponge.

Disclaimer about the water bottle: There was a girl here who used the water bottle baffle and her betta managed to get stuck in it and die. Not only does the sponge prevent this, but the sponge is also another great place for beneficial bacteria to grow. :)

That's true, but I would be leery of the water bottle method since one of our posters lost one of her bettas when the curious betta got in the bottle & got stuck there.

Besides, with the sponge method YOU control the flow - pull up for more flow or down for less - PLUS it is another area for the good bacteria to grow.
