You killed a lot of your beneficial bacteria by scrubbing everything in tap water and likely killed your cycle. The sand shouldd of retained its bacteria which will help you recycle that tank (should take a week or two versus months). In the mean time you need to be doing frequent water changes.

Yeah, I was kinda figuring that after last night's change. I'm thinking about setting up another cookie jar like Jeffery's (2 gal, heated with a touch of shrubbery) and putting Gyarados in it until the tank is stable again. Would that be safer for him?

I just did another ammonia test on Gyarados' tank.

I'm freaking out a little here. I think I want to just remove him entirely and put him in a temporary setup similar to jeffery's while this tank cycles out. He's acting fine, better than that first spike (though he was going through a lot of stress last time with a few other factors) but I don't want this affecting him.

I'm I right to do this? Or should I just keep him in there and do these religious daily water changes (I'm doing a 50-70% water change daily, the water is now being prepped with prime and I also give the tank a few drops of microb-lift)
