Freaked Out..

So i come home from work about a hour ago (11:30ishpm) to find out that my wife's friend'ds kid (this is what my wife told me) put a pocket mirror in front of my fish tank the fish saw it self and went crazy smashing himself in the gravel like one or two times and swimming very crazy like into the wall a couple of times.. once hard and then hid in treasure box she thought everything was fine except that he hid in the box for the rest of the night and my betta never does that... she also said that when it was out swimming it was all fluffy out and then when he saw her it went and hid in his box or in the back. and she was the only one home(that crazy kid left)... all this happened around 730-830pm so of coarse i was kinda freaked out... after hearing this i took a look at him and he was swimming around just fine but.... it looks like he had scales missing on the top of his head or kinda like a scar or something.. Can he get sick?

Flaring is a perfectly natural thing. Over flaring, and getting over-excited about protecting their territory can sometimes be harmful.

If you could post a picture we might get a better idea of what may be wrong.

lol good point! In any case, I'd just say keep your water clean for the time being to prevent any sort of infection in case he scratched himself or something.

Bettas are surprisingly hardy fish. As long as he's acting like himself I wouldn't worry a whole lot. Again, clean water is a cure-all. :) (with the obvious exceptions. lol)
