I got my 1st betta last week. He was fine till yesterday. However, today his stomach looks bloated.
Please help with what it can be and what all I need to do. I have no experience of fish keeping, he is my first fish so I have no idea as to what is to be done :(
Sorry you are having problems...got a few questions...
How big is the tank, filtration, live plants, additives used, water temp, how much and how often are the water changes and when was the last one, what kind and how much, how often on the food/feeding????
I got him as a gift from a friend.
He is in a small 0.5 gal bowl as of now (got a 2 gal bowl for him yesterday)
No filtration, live plants or additives used Water temp: arnd 27degree C (I am from India) Food: about 4-5 small balls of Hitachi Fish food everyday (after soaking in water for 15mins) Water change: 50% daily. Changed the water today.
You don't have any additives in the water like chlorine or choramines?
At this point I would start making 100% daily water changes and hold/stop all feeding for at least 4 days and then offer small (1-2 pellets) feeding twice a day
After 4 days of no food-if he is still bloated I would do an Epsom salt 1tsp/gal treatment along with 100% daily water change for 3-4 days
His activity seemed all fine yesterday..He was swimming and eating well.
He readily ate the food today too. However, now he is mostly lying at the bottom, ocassionally swimming and comes up when I go near his bowl. Also I see something white (like little flakes around his chin)
I noticed a light brownish colored poop today. He had not pooped in last few of days.
The white flakes are very small. Tried, but cudn't get catch it in a snap. Will try again and post as soon as I get a decent pic.
Shall I treat him with any meds too, along with the 100% water change and fasting?
