Tank Journal - Can the tank be rescued?

So this thread will be updated regularly. I tried to sell this tank, didn't get any offers. Basically what happened is that life got in the way, and the poor old thing took a divebomb into fugliness. The filter had stopped working for some reason, I got a plant with a snail infestation, and my heater went crazy. Hopefully I can resurrect this sad looking tank.

My ultimate goal is to have a lush, densely planted tank with proper filtration, heat, and maintainance. I need help though, any advice will be taken very seriously and happily. It used to be a sorority tank, with at least ten ladies living there over the years. I am going to either divide it for males or get another sorority in the works. I also hope this will be useful for beginners, as many of the questions will be aimed in their direction.

So first question: Divided for males or create a new sorority?

Clarification :)

They won't be questions for beginners, but hopefully they can gain something from this project.

I'd say divide and conquer!

That's a big tank. Probably you should make a sorority and put some other fish in there too maybe.

Pfffft. Divide it. Sororities don't seem to be worth the hassle. Many people end up with an assasin betta. Besides, you said you already had a sorority?

How big is the tank? Looks like a 10gal. If that's so I think it would be too small for a sorority. Divide it in 2 for 2 males.

It's a 15g ... so I guess I'll do a sorority, it's worked in the past. Now I must clean the thing! It's pretty disgusting.

Yay, I love it when people start sororities, if they post post pics of their new girls. It's so exciting!
