Aquarium Rock

As I am planning on moving Sam to a bigger house, I bought an aquarium rock as decoration. It has a label on it saying it is specifically for aquariums. What do I need to do to make it safe to add into Sam's new home?

If it is labeled aquarium safe, chances are it is. If you were really concerned, you could do the vinegar test. Drop a bit of vinegar on it and if it reacts, I wouldn't use it.

Other than that, I believe those specific rocks are kind of rough to the touch. You could try running panty hose over the rock. If it snacks or tears... it will probably snag or tear your betta's fins.

Did the pantyhose test and no snags! I picked one that was smooth to the touch. It is maybe a kind of sandstone?? and if you rub it hard enough it is almost like sanding it. Do I need to sterilize the rock somehow?

Just rinse it in warm water. Make sure you do that before adding anything new to any fish tank.

We carry those rocks at work, and use them in many of our tanks. ;)

I'd say just rinse thoroughly under hot water, like any new fake plant or decoration. :)
