Wow, that is WAY too small for her. She needs to be upgrade to something like a 2.5 gallon or 5 gallon aquarium. That's too small of a container to even safely have a heater in.

No, they do not live in tiny puddles. That is a complete myth. They live mainly in rice paddy's. This is the "tiny puddle" that betta's live in...

Please upgrade her to something larger than a 8inch by 4inch little container, she deserves so much better. And please, do NOT add anything with her to that container, there is barely enough room for her in it. Adding anything else will cause the water to become toxic from the ammonia and waste buildup.

They DO NOT like small areas. If some PetCo employee told you that ignore it. A betta needs a tank at least 2.5 gallons with heating and gentle filtration. For tank mates I'd suggest a small school of white cloud minnows, they can live at just about any temp and don't bother bettas too much. 10 gallons is the minimum for a community tank with a betta.

A male betta defends a small area with his nest. The area of a 2.5 gallon tank or sometimes larger. When they fight one fish gets a chance to escape in the huge areas they live in.
