Exclamation Feeshee is sick!

Hello, my blue CT is sick. He's not eating, and just sits on the leaf highest towards the surface. He barely moves and when he does, he sometimes lays on his side (he's been doing that for weeks) but now he's just not moving for food. I did a water change on him yesterday and added some aquarium salt. No improvement.

He's in a 2.5 gal, heater, no pump and the temp is set at 80.

Is there anything else I can do for him?

It might be worth your while to pick up a liquid test kit from your LPS.. that will let you know if there are dangerous levels of anything in your water, and is sort of crucial to helping us figure out what's wrong.. in the meantime, I believe you also need to find a water treatment that removed not only chloramines, but also metals. Stress coat already removes chlorine, so you don't have to add anything else for it's removal.

I think in a 2.5 gallon that's unfiltered I think you should be doing water changes a little more often.. is he the betta in your picture? He looks bloated there. How much do you feed him at a time? Have you seen him poop recently?

Hopefully someone else will pop in and offer advice as well.

yes that is him in the picture. He was bloated back when i took the pic. I was feeding too much. Now i'm down to 4 pellets twice a day. Right now he just ate a pellet and immediately went back to the plant to rest. I'll look into picking up a kit so i can test the water. Because I do have another betta, and if the water is bad, it's bad for Hope, also.

down to 4?!

That still seems way too excessive.

What should I be feeding him, then?
I don't get this, I've had bettas for years--and one of them lived 4 years.

Well I'm glad that you'll check your water out. (:

As for feeding, you should feed less than that.. their stomachs are only about the size of their eye, so eight pellets in one day would feel like us stuffing way too much food into us at Thanksgiving. You could try two in the morning and then one or two in the evening, I think that would be much better for him.

Yea at most I will feed 2 pellets once then maybe 3 later on in the day.

Usually it's only 2 pellets to times a day. I also pre-soak them so that the pellets are already expanded.

I think your fish is just backed up w/ detritus... I hope that is the case.
