Lol in a 1.5 gal tank the whole point is moot. Just do your water changes. The crystals could take time to work. Besides, they probably rely on a chemical reaction so at one point or another they will stop working.

Oh and why is it bad to out a plant in a 1.5 gal? I did and my fish had plenty of room to swim. This was his home before I upgraded it to a 10 gal

Yeah, I know they'll stop working, they're supposed to be replaced every 30 days supposedly.
