question about bettas

Hello guys, I got my first betta today. He is orange and being form Knoxville, TN I had to have him! He is in a 20 gallon tank with a heater and filter and seems very active and happy but i noticed little black spots that look like freckles on his body most on the left side near his eye is this something to be worried about? When I first saw him I did remember seeing any of these could I have just over looked it? I am new to bettas and want to make sure he stays as happy as can be.

Thanks,

Jonsson

Maybe he's marbled? I don't really know, but he's a really spoiled betta!

ok I will try and post a photo tomorrow once I get batteries for the camera. I know this sounds like a dumb question but there is nothing wrong with having him in such a big tank is there? I've never understood why they are keep in such small places.

I've read [meaning this is people's opinion] that some bettas can get stressed from /too/ large environments only because they like patrolling their territory. However I don't think a 20 gallon is near large enough to cause undue problems at all.

Just plant/decor it up and he'll be a very happy fish.

I am attempting to get the photo you requested, but he will not stay still long enough for me to take it

This site will show you some aquatic plants. Study a bit and maybe try to get a few with similar water/light needs but otherwise a nice variety of tall to short plants will make the tank look nice as well as give him things to 'play' with. At the same time pick plants that look nice to 'you' since it's your tank. As long as he has them and he can hide and rest on them without fin snags he's not going to care what they look like.

Be aware that pet stores tend to carry 'aquatic plants' that aren't going to survive more then a few months completely submerged in water. [A mistake I made because I bought without checking on-line and then I had to replace them]

*laughs* They can be such buggers to take photos of.

My little yellow VT has natural black speckles in his scales. This coloring is normal in lighter-coloured bettas. :)
