Petco sales 2.5 kritter keepers for only $12. I'm sure that you save up money for a heater in the future. Don't worry about it If you can't get one right away just save. Beacause heaters are NOT cheap, trust me I know.

You don't really need one all have to is water changes twice a week, but tetra make in tank filters for 2-40gal, so You can buy one at Petco, Petsmart, or Walmart.

If price is a big issue for you, I suggest buying your accessories online. Pet stores will typically mark their prices up $10 or more over online stores because they have to pay for a lot of overhead. Think about it, every store has its own mortgage payment, maintenance, employees, retail displays, animals to take care of, services, insurance, etc, and they compensate by raising the prices of each item. Online stores don't have to worry about many of these costs, and they pass the savings on to you.

I use this site: http://www.fosterandsmithaquatics.co...lies/pr/c/3578

The shipping is a very reasonable flat rate, even with shipping factored in, you still save quite a bit of money, and the more you buy at once, the more you save. They also take paypal, so you don't need a credit card, just a normal bank account. It's a great place to buy gravel, heaters, silk plants, filters, test kits, dechlorinator, etc. They also offer some of the Marineland Eclipse nano tank kits if you're interested in something like that.

I HATE to be naggy... but I just bought my 2.5 gallon tank for 15 dollars at petsmart a week ago :3 It came by itself though w/o a hood or anything. but the only thing you would have to be extra for it is a filter, and if you live further up in the northern hemisphere maybe a heater.
