I got him yesterday and it wasn't until i put him in his container that i noticed he looked kinda bloated i figured from over eating at the store but then i started questioning because it looked like his whole body had a little swelling with the belly area being big mainly.... anyhow i was wondering just how sick was he and i just caught him this morning trying to build a bubble nest I think he'd draw a lot of water into his mouth then spit it out but all the little bubbles popped and he's stopped. so guess i can rule serious illness out now?
I'd look up Dropsy if I was you, just to be on the safe side. The "all over bloating" you described sounds like it could be Dropsy. Do the fishes scales stand out? Making him look like a pinecone? If so, then it is likely Dropsy.
I don't think it is a bubble nest building behavior unless there are a lot of bubbles as the end result, bubbles that don't pop easily.
btw is it possible that he could be a previously owned betta? he seems really comfortable around me already and really responsive to fingers following and swimming up to the top when he sees my hand above the container.
Sure enough when I went to clean out his container I came back to the largest poop ever in his cup. Looks like his belly is going down a bit. I'll examine later after he's completely back in
