True, but we'd already lost one fish to a cycling issue, and I didn't want to take any chances. I knew with the small bowl, a) I could see any waste that was in the water and clean it out immediately, and b) I could change all or most of the water frequently and keep the fish alive without breaking the cycle of the tank and what progress I'd made there.

He was only in the bowl about three days, but it made me feel better to know he wasn't getting weak or sick because of cycling issues. Now that the cycling has mostly worked out, all is well in fishy land.

how high is the ph exactly?

I'm not sure how high it is exactly. The test I have for pH is not good at all. I can only tell that it is well on the acid side, but I'm not putting a lot of stock in it because it's a paper test and all wonky. I can't get a big fancy testing kit until I use up what I've got.

So far so good though, Alvin has been happy as a clam.

Oooh, Alvin built a nice little bubble nest against the cheesecloth baffle. I'm so proud! It's his very first one.

Thanks, my little one picked him out. I'm more partial to ones that are blue. I do like the lavender on his body, but when the overhead light is on in the aquarium, it backlights him in a way that you can't see it as well. When the sunlight is shining in from the window, he's at his prettiest.

Here are a couple of pictures of him back in the tank. He seems happy and healthy, so I'm pleased.

I love little Alvin, he is really pretty. The lavender is especially lovely, but more than that, the little guy has a lot of spunk and personality. I find myself sneaking into my kid's room just to watch him. He's a lot of fun. I'm very fond of him, and the red is very striking against the green background in his tank.
