I prefer acrylic--it's lighter, resists breaking and cracking, and if you take care of it properly you can avoid scratches. Always use algae scrubbers that are acrylic safe.

An acrylic aquarium is said to be 17 times tougher then a glass one. Also, I remember reading about how much the temperture doesnt fluctuate as much when having an acrylic tank. Crowning lightest of about 50% more then glass.

Im not sure which one to pick for the 30 gallon im thinking of getting...but if you want to go with glass just get a good, solid stand.

Wel, I'm certainly seriously re-considering acrylic now. Scuffs are not fun, but I image a totally busted tank is worse. :P ;)

As long as you're not horsing around in the room the tank is in I think glass'll be fine. =]

Just remember not to be like the kid that was benchpressing and lost the weight....

Acrylic is easier when you're moving. =] If that's gonna factor in. =]

Either is good really and I'm the kind of person where price is a big factor. =P So I tend to go the cheaper route.

With glass tanks don't you have to worry about seams eventually leaking?

As long as your not banging your tank with a plastic hammer daily, I'm sure the glass wont break. I have a very good glass 2.5 tank, and I had a VERY THIN glass 2 gal bowl and I have another 3 gal bowl with VERY THIN GLASS. I've had all these tanks for over 3 months, And I do not have a single chip or scratch. I prefer glass because it doesnt scratch, and what would you be doing to break a glass tank? Becuase if you hit a glass tank with a hammer or something, it WILL break. But so will an acrilic. Also, you really should have made this a poll =P

Sorry, I didn't think about making a poll as I thought it was a rather simple question. One or the other.

But, I also didn't realize it was a "hot" topic in the world of fish. So, please excuse my ignorance.

I appreciate all the replies though!

Either/or - I have both and am happy with both. For me, it pretty much depends on what's on sale! :)
