New to Site

Hello everyone! Red and I are new to each other and new to this site. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what type of betta Red is? I also was wondering if it was crazy that I have a lil ol fish in a 20 gallon tank? I was originally going to get goldfish after I set my tank up, but I saw Red at Walmart and he hit a soft spot for me. I then was thinking that because he came from Walmart he would be a cycle fish. I hope it is not the case because I am very attached to him now. I do have a heater and the temputure is stablizing at 80 degrees. I hope to get better pictures of him soon, but for now those will have to do. Thanks for listening!!

Welcome to the forum!!!! If thats red in your avatar then he's an multi-color VT or veiltail. A 20gal is GREAT for a betta!!! In the future you could maybe divided it to make space for more bettas. Your temp is fine also an bettas max is 82.

Red is so happy now

Red is swimming all over his new home now!! Yes, that is Red in my avatar. How often should I feed him? Some places I researched said two to three times a week others said every day. Sorry the pics are so big I am learning how to resize them Does he look healthy?

My mistake Red looks more like a salamander not a multi-color. Feed him 6 days a week and fast him once a week to keep him from bloating. On the weekends you can feed him a treat such as bloodworms or brineshrimp that you find in a pet store live, frozen, or freeze- dried.

Welcome to the forum, Red is a beautiful veiltail.

If you ever want more fish in there, but don't want to divide the tank, it is big enough to get some cories or some schooling fish like harlequin rasboras. :)

also, he looks very healthy~

Well, everyone has different opinions on feeding. It is generally agreed that bettas should be fed at least 6 day a week, and two or three times a day. Also most people feed their bettas floating pellets. But the final decision is up to you. Do what works best for you and Red. By the way I think Red is adorable.
