My fish frenzy Before

I got him 9 months ago at petsmart (plus however long he stayed there), and now he is rather pale and thin. He lives in my 5 gallon separated with Gillina (the mother of my fry). I checked the ammonia levels and they are fine. Gillina is fine as well, she does not exhibit any of the traits that Frenzy exhibits.

Frenzy's colors are somewhat muted in the light (he used to have a shininess to him) and his fins are clamped and body is thin, and his gills look bruised (you can see in the picture), and his belly is pale. Is he going through old age? All he does is lay on the bottom or hang up at the top corner barely moving. This is him now.

If you've only had for for 9 months, odds are that he's NOT going through old age, despite the fact that he might've spent a couple months at the pet store, since most bettas can live to be 5 or so years old. What I think it he might have internal parasites. Try to get some medications that adress that. Water changes, heat, and just plain TLC would help him some.
(I can't see the pics, so I'm not positive that it's parasites. This is just a fact that I'm at school problem, probably not you, lol).

Is the 5g divided tank filtered, how much and how often are the water changes, additives used, live plants, water temp, how is his appetite, any treatments or medications over the past 30 days-can you post your water pram numbers? How long has he been acting/looking this way?

I clean the 5g once a week-about 35% of the water. There is no live plants, I only use Prime when I add the new water- and he's been acting this way for about a week. No medications have been used, just some aquarium salt. I checked the ammonia levels this week and they were at 0. In the beginning of the week he has been eating but yesterday when I fed him he barely ate.

In a 5g unfiltered ??? tank with two fish-it needs more water changes to maintain water quality...what about water temp?

I would increase the water changes-if unfiltered-1-100% and 1-50% weekly and if filtered twice weekly 50%

At this point I would Qt him and start a daily 100% water change with aquarium salt 1tsp/gal for 10 days

You have more that goes on in the water than just ammonia-a lot of it we can't/don't test for and water changes are the only way to keep it at safe levels in a closed system

You also need to rule out velvet(google pic)-and make sure that is not the cause of the clamped fins-
