If he's being pushed around by the flow and has trouble swimming, then a baffle will be necessary. If he can get to the top without struggle, then it should be okay.

thanks everyone, ah cycling the tank. I didn't worry about that with the 2 gallon, just did full water changes. so i guess i better do some water testing with this larger home. I did add some gravel from one of my other tanks, what i should do is add a bit of media from one of my other filters. i don't know why cyclying this tank didn't come to mind. i have never done a fishless cycle so i'll just keep up regular water changes so i don't stress out mr fishy. i have added more live plants so i think that will help a lot. apprecite all the help
