Was I wrong?

Went to the LFS this afternoon to grab a few fish for the community tank and saw this magnificent turquoise Betta... he looked great! anyway i saw he was in a tank with some minnows... which under compatibility was with goldfish and a tank temperature of 15-20 degrees celcius.
I called the shop worker and he assured me he was fine... even though he was just sitting at the bottom of the tank, i did mention to moving him into one of about 5 tanks that were empty.... he refused... long story short he told me he knows what right for the fish, he works there i dont.

I always thought Bettas got sick in cold waters?

You were right. they need 76-80 degrees F because they are tropical fish. Unforuntately, most LFS employees don't know crap :(

Grrr that's really cold for bettas, that's colder than room temperature, so poor betta must be really cold :(

My favorite thing to do when they get all high and mighty like that is grab a betta fish care book (if they have one in the store) and flip to the page that proves them wrong, they can't argue with a book lol

How rude! Who decided he was the king of fish knowledge? If he really cared about fish, he would be willing to learn MORE about them, rather than refusing good advice!
