Guppies!

I finally got my guppies

I've wanted to get some for a while but I didn't have a tank and I didn't like the regular orange ones they had at petsmart. Well today I went to a new aquarium store and they had gorgeous guppies so I decided to get some. I picked up 5, I think they're all male but I'm not entirely sure. They're in my planted 10 gallon that used to be my sorority. I'm hoping that what ever was killing my girls won't hurt the guppies but I have no way to know. I did a massive water change and boiled driftwood after I removed the girls so hopefully the guppies will be ok.

I'm planning to add some more fish eventually but for now its just the 5 guppies and 2 ghost shrimp. They seem happy so far :)

Acclimating


The yellow one is named "Banana".. Very original name


Jack (as in Jack-O-Lantern because his colors remind me of Halloween)














Not sure if Banana is male or female.. (s)he has a smaller caudal fin than the other ones.










The blueish one that has less black on his caudal is "Skye" and the other two don't have names yet.

I wasn't sure if I wanted guppies because of the problem with overpopulation if you mix males and females but if that happens I'll feed some fry to my bettas and sell the rest to the pet store (its a really nice place, very knowledgeable).

Wow, I have never seen guppies with colors like that. I have only seen the solid orange, red, and yellow ones. they are beautiful! really, truely.

Thanks I'm so happy with them. I love my bettas but I've wanted Guppies forever, I do want to breed them eventually but not until I can get a 20-30 gallon tank set up. For now I'm just happy with my 5 guys.

They're so much fun to watch.. especially around feeding time. I heard petsmart has a sale going on on guppies so maybe I'll go pick up a couple more tomorrow, I think I read they do best in groups of at least 6. I also want to get my mystery snail.

Does anyone have any suggestions on food? Right now I'm feeding Aqueon tropical flakes but I was wondering if there was a higher quality brand I could look into.

I got two more males today

I had to go to petsmart to pick up some more frozen BBS for my fry and since the Guppies are on sale 2/$3 I got two more. These guys are turquoise. Very pretty but not patterned like my original 5. They're acclimating right now.

TetraMin is a GREAT brand!!! You can also try TetraMin color to REALLY bring out their colors.
