No because bettas (well, all fish) need a night and day cycle like we do. Keeping the light on would be like never having the sun set for humans. Sleeping would be hard, and it would disrupt our life cycle, so to speak. Definately turn it off at night.

Thanks.. I thought so too, but then I saw somewhere online where it said not to cut it off. So I guess he will definitely have a bed time then haha

Yeah, turn it off. It will give him his sleep cycle. Also it would eventually cause a fluctuation in algae growth. No one wants that!

The light should be on for 10 hours a day. I turn mine on when I go to school and about 2/3 hours after Im home from school.

As everyone else said, it does need to be off.

I hate it, because I would love to leave the light on at night to watch the fish as I fall asleep. =[
