Aren't albinos prone to blindness as well? I remember a member here used to have a blind albino betta, though I don't know if that was just a coincidence or not...

:( yuck. Hey at least bettas don't need UVB lighting. I'm against breeding for albinism things like Iguanas.. The amount of light needed for them is already SO BRIGHT that with their sensitive eyes it hurts!

But you know, honestly, we breed a lot of 'deformities'... Imagine if all dogs looked like wolves, like early dogs..and someone bred a weiner dog..or a chihuaha we'd think he was an idiot!! :O And it's true, the long fins we have bred into our bettas would be a 'deformity' in the wild.. Imagine having to lug those around while swimming away from predators! The wild isn't full of 5 gallon filtered tanks where everyone is nicely seperated complete with lids! Dangerous out there!


But ahaha that is expensive for a fish..especially one that lives for such a short time! If they lived 20+ years and it was a rare mutation that didn't cause problems..I could see that, and I HAVE seen that. But not for a betta! Unless it was the magical glowing perfect finned ultra betta who could fly and talk :)

The albino ferret I used to have was deaf.
I think albinos just have all kinds of problems.

Wow that's just sad. I don't think that anyone would pay that much for a really nice betta. I've also seen people selling "short bodied" bettas as a new rarity. So sad...

You cant breed albinos anyway...they're blind.

Not only are they usually blind (but not always) they also usually have other genetic deformities and usually don't live to their full life expectancy. Albinos in general are just unhealthy and not something I would ever consider breeding.

Some other deformities (like the doubletail) can give you many health problems but through proper culling and proper breeding you can reduce those, you just can't do that with Albinism.

Yup. It's all about knowing what to do. For example I'd never breed DT heavily into a PK. PKs have short bodies and DT makes it worse. I like albinos but a blind fish with a ton of health issues isn't worth $2010.00...no betta is.

Depends, albino ball pythons generally don't have health problems, those tend to come from things like Spider ball pythons that get the 'head wobble' problems! But albinism was already more common in that species anyway, so it didn't take much for people to be able to breed for that and not have inbreeding!


But yeah... I don't think anyone will be buying that fish..lol!
