Remix is an VERY smart betta. When it comes to water changes he knows not to get too close to the cup. He'll swim up a bit to check it out, but keeps his distance. So it get to the point were I got the net and he knew to stay away from that aswell. I did net him after a while thou. After that happning last week today I finally got him into the cup quickly and he toatally spazzed out!!! On the other hand he's a AWESOME bubblenest builder!! His half done ones take up half his kritter keeper!! He's also become alot more fun to have now that he's becoming less shy and freaksout a bit less.
Does anyone else a have an super smart or clever betta??
My moms betta Apollo is a COMPLETE spazz! :P We've had him for about 5 months now and he's oretty used to us but during water changes he is the smartest little bugger and knows just where to hide. (He's in a 5 gallon hexagon which makes it a little harder to get to certain points in his tank.) In his cup he is a complete spazz too! My betta Riley is the complete opposite though...he's calm as can be and doesn't even move in the net whenever I net him. Alexander used to be completely spazzy during water changes but now he's alot more like Riley. :) Still always flaring away in his cup though while I'm changing his water! :P
Cool, Ritotini (one of my three males, lol) after the spawn he added more to the bubblenest, and it covered practicly HALF of his tank, it was a 5 gallon, because i was doing a really small spawn. (and i wasnt meaning to actally spawn, i didnt have a heater....)
Some of my bettas are way too smart.
Damian has a gill problem... his gill covers stick out. Not nearly as much as before, but they still do. No matter what I try they won't go back to normal! Hasn't changed his behavior, still active and spunky!
But... he's learned to use his disability to his advantage. I was watching him earlier this evening, and he was ascending and descending slowly in his tank. Kinda watching me, kinda not. But what I noticed that when he wants to stop descending, he "flares", but doesn't really flare, just sticks out his beard and uses it as a parachute. Freaked out. What else can he teach himself?
Chance is too smart for his own good. He finds his way into other sections with the uncanny ability of using the teeny tiniest holes.
Zim is pretty goofy... he prefers to suck up his food instead of just biting it so it takes him 3x longer to eat than the others. He's weird.
She is in love with the water intake pipe in her 5 gallon tank. I am not kidding.
She wraps her body around the intake pipe and hugs it, sort of. Well, okay, that could be her swimming around the pipe extra close. But it gets weirder still.
At the bottom of the intake pipe there is a cage, about 1 1/2" long, to keep smaller fish from getting sucked up the pipe. At first, she accidently swam to close to it, and got stuck there for a second. She broke free, and wasn't harmed, so I was relieved.
It started to happen more frequently. Then I realized BB was doing it on purpose, not by accident!
She swims right up to the intake cage, lets herself get stuck to it, and hangs there for about 15 seconds. Then she breaks free and goes her merry way. She'll do this several times a night!
I figure she must be getting some sort of weird fishy gratification from this...
She also likes to be right in the stream of incomming water when I refill the tank, and before she got her tank mates, she edged her tank with mini bubble nests (I thought this was a male behavior? I know from her gravid thingee she's a girl).
Any thoughts on this? BB is about 8 months old now.
