Breeding Age

I have nice halfmoon pair that I am planning to breed soon, but I'm just wondering what age would be the best for them breed? They are from the same spawn and are about 3 months old. The male I am using is pretty big for his age but the female is about normal for her age.

I have spawned Bettas as young as 3 months and as old as 3 years without any problems, however, ideally I would say 6mo-1yr

Young bettas may spawn, but IME, produce less eggs and poor survival rate. I usually breed at least 4 month olds. 6 months - 1 yr is ideal.

Everyone has different experiences. Breeders I've talked to say the best age is 3-4 months, some say 4-6 months. It really depends on if the fish is mature enough and willing to breed and how well conditioned the pair is. If the pair is conditioned and responsive I think you should be able to get a spawn at 3 months old.

All my breeders have been show fish so they've been older when they were bred (around 6months old, give or take) and I've had success every time.

I prefer my pair to be 4-6 months old. Old bettas are often passed their breeding prime and most bettas stop spawning at 14 months of age, though I've heard of bettas breeding for up to 3 years.

Thanks, I'm planning to spawn them at the end of this month. Here's the breeding tank. Tell me what you think.
