Betta Constipation!

One of my bettas has recently become constipated and I was wondering if anyone had any good foods I can feed him or any remedies so I can help him get better. He is in a 5 Gallon tank by himself so he's not getting stressed or anything, so idk why he got constipated. I've only had it happen once before and that was because I rescued a betta from wal-mart and it was that way when I bought it. My bettas get a mixed diet of live, frozen, and dried foods so he had a nice varied diet. Any ideas?

Do you soak your food before feeding it? Pellets, flakes, and freeze-dried foods all need to be soaked for about five minutes in water before feeding, or else they expand and cause bloat.

How often do you feed and what is your tank temperature?

If the tank is at 78-80* you can fast him for a couple days to see if he gets over it.. if your tank isn't heated that can affect his digestion and you'll need to get a heater to keep the tank at that range.

Does your tank have a heater? If it doesn't, and the temperature is low, that can cause the fish metabolism to slow down so it gets constipated.
I'd say... you can give him some brine shrimps, they are a great fiber source. Or, you can give him a cooked pea; remove the shell and do tiny pellets with it. Give it to him one day without any other kind of food.

Hope he gets better!

I don't soak his food but I will start. I think I may fast him for a bit as well. I feed him once a day and he gets 80% water changes every 5 to 7 days. My tank isn't heated but I have a thermometer and it ranges from 79 to 82 depending on the time of day. I don't feed him any flakes, because he doesn't like them, but I'll try to soak the freeze dried stuff. I don't feed him that very often at all though. Thanks for the reply :)

Yeah, I think soaking whatever you feed him and letting him fast for a day or two will be all you need. Good luck. (:
