How to Heal?

Okay i woke up this morning and feed my betta his flakes when i noticed his tail was extremely ripped.
Lately he does flare at a lot because of a new house and tank ect...
I have heard the can rip their tail from over-flaring?
Some of you have heard that in my tank he sees his refection with the light on.
Or he probably cut it on my cheap plastic plants.

Any tips on how to heal this? I will get pics up soon.

P.S I can't buy real plants

I would buy some BettaFix. Just use as directed on the bottle.

Also, you said you feed your Betta flakes? If so, I would make sure you purchase some good quality pellets like New Life Spectrum or Attison's Betta Food.

BettaFix works great, as does aquarium salt & heating the tank. It's amazing how much a heated tank can help a betta!

This happened to my betta Swimy, he had plastic plants also. You can buy silk plants instead, they dont have sharp edges and have kind of a cloth feel and they arn't to expensive.

You can treat him with Melafix, this worked for my betta, i put him in a hostpital tank with a couple silk plants and treated him. He's perfectly fine now :)

I would say AQ salt is better than any of those medications, in all honesty.. if it gets really bad you could try one later.

My HM bit most of his tail off and it took about four weeks to regrow most of it.. if it's only ripped it should take a couple weeks. Just keep his water clean and warm and it'll expedite the process.

okay, which bring me to my next question, i was actually going to make a new thread for this but, speaking of water changes...
I have my little buddy in a 5 gallon tank with about 4 and a half gallons in it.
How often do you recommend i change it? right now it is once a week unless he is being medicated. in which it is every two days.
