Taking care of a fellow Dorm-mate's betta fishy!

My friend down the hall is letting me watch her super cute, betta fishy while she goes home for the weekend. She said I could have her for keeps before Thanksgiving break! I'd really like info on it, any at all will help to make this fishy happy!

Oh, what a cutie! I love her light pastel coloring. I was wondering if you are sure it's a female though. Kinda looks like a boy to me but I'm not sure.

I think it's male. I'm not sure. She told me it was a girl name moobs or something. It keeps blowing bubbles, so I think its a boy fishy. I'd like to know what kind he is, and what not. I think he's sickly, or maybe just unhappy. I'm gonna buy him so plants to play in.

Are you changing his water? It looks like he's in a bowl, so he'll need lots of water changes to stay healthy.

She told me not to change it till they came back, something about tablets you have to put in it.

What volume of water is in the bowl?

1 gallon, it looks bigger tho. but the sticker on the bottom says 1 gallon. She had her big buy it for her from wal-mart.

I'm a little concerned because in the picture of the fish, he's got his fins held close to his body. That can bee a sign of poor water quality, and in a one gallon bowl, ammonia can build up really quickly and make fish very sick, especially if they're fed too much.

I know she said not to change the water, but if the fish starts to look lethargic/sick I'd go to the pet store or Wallmart and get dechlorinator drops, then change that water with fresh warm water and dechlorinate it that way. If he starts getting sick, I'd change most of the water twice a day until he perks up again.

Just a head's up. It's tough to manage water quality in a one gallon bowl.
