No bubble nest?

Hi everyone,

I'm a little concerned about little Alvin. He hasn't made a bubble nest in a while, and I can't tell why. His water is clean, the right temperature, no ammonia, no sign of disease.

He's active and swimming. Should a male betta always have a nest? Or is it something they do in phases?

Bubble nests are a territorial thing, not a mark of happiness or health.. so they don't always build them. Don't worry if he hasn't built one in a while. My boys only ever made a nest once in their respective tanks.

Dobby hasn't built any bubble nests yet, from what I can tell, although in the mornings there are frequently lots of bubbles along the surface edges of the water.

Mr. Fish hasn't made a bubble nest in a while, either. :( But all of the water parameters and everything are perfect. I guess it's just a phase they go in and out of.

I agree. Bettas don't always build bubblenests. Sometimes you get a bubbler, sometimes you don't.

Haha none of my current males have built a bubble nest since I've owned them. One of my did have a brief attempt at making one when I moved the paper out from between his tank and one of my female's, and one built a nest when one of my females jumped the divider into his side and he thought he might get lucky.

Mine just spend their time swimming around, or wiggling into places they shouldn't. Though one of my previous males would make huge bubble nests, right before I was due to change his water. I used to scoop it out and then gently put it back in once I was done so that I didn't destroy his hard work.

None of mine build bubblenests much, though Julian and McGee both surprised me the other day by blowing small nests.
